Job Overview

NMB Bank Plc is seeking a strategic and creative leader to fill the position of Senior Manager; Brand Strategy, Advertising and Promotion. As one of Tanzania’s most profitable and innovative banks, NMB relies on a strong brand identity to maintain its market leadership.

We are looking for an experienced professional to take full ownership of the bank’s brand architecture. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the strategic management, development, and execution of NMB Bank’s brand, media, promotions, and advertising initiatives. Your mandate is to ensure consistent brand positioning, effective media presence, and impactful marketing communication that supports business growth and strengthens the bank’s leadership in the market.

Key Responsibilities & Strategic Deliverables

The role encompasses six critical strategic pillars:

1. Brand Strategy & Management

  • Brand Guardianship: You will be responsible for safeguarding brand equity and driving brand health. This involves ensuring that all marketing communications align strictly with the bank’s values, products, and strategic priorities.

  • Strategic Alignment: Lead the development, implementation, and periodic review of NMB’s brand strategy to ensure it remains aligned with corporate objectives and shifting market dynamics.

  • Consistency: Oversee the consistent application of the NMB master brand and its sub-brands across all touchpoints (digital, physical, internal), ensuring strict adherence to visual identity standards.

  • Performance Tracking: Manage and monitor brand performance through regular brand health tracking, customer insights, and brand valuation exercises in collaboration with external agencies.

2. Media Strategy, Planning & Optimization

  • Omnichannel Strategy: Support the development and execution of the bank’s annual media strategy across Above the Line (ATL), Below the Line (BTL), digital, and sponsorship channels to achieve optimal visibility.

  • Investment Optimization: Provide strategic input to ensure media decisions strengthen overall brand positioning. You will be responsible for optimizing media investment to ensure the bank gets the best value and reach.

  • Agency Management: Manage relationships with media planning and buying agencies to ensure quality delivery, innovation, and compliance with the bank’s policies.

  • Data-Driven Insights: Guide the evaluation of campaign performance using data-driven insights to inform continuous improvement in media effectiveness.

3. Promotions & Campaign Management

  • Campaign Execution: Oversee the planning and execution of promotional and tactical marketing campaigns designed to drive product uptake (e.g., loans, accounts, digital services) and enhance customer engagement.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all promotions and activations comply with regulatory requirements (such as gaming board regulations) and internal approval processes.

  • Targeted Calendars: Coordinate with internal business units to develop targeted campaign calendars that align with business priorities and specific customer needs.

4. Advertising & Creative Oversight

  • Creative Leadership: Provide strategic leadership in the development of advertising campaigns, from the initial creative brief to production and final deployment.

  • Message Integrity: Ensure advertising messages are compelling, consistent with brand positioning, and reflect NMB’s core purpose and values.

  • Quality Assurance: Oversee agency and production partners to maintain high quality, timeliness, and brand integrity across all creative deliverables.

5. Planning, Budgeting & Reporting

  • Annual Planning: Contribute to the development of the annual marketing and communications plan.

  • Budget Management: Support the Head of Brand & Marketing in managing brand, media, and promotional budgets, ensuring prudent use of resources and effective ROI tracking.

  • Reporting: Prepare periodic reports and dashboards on campaign performance, brand health, and media effectiveness for senior management. You will also prepare technical reports such as brand valuation studies.

6. Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Team Mentorship: Lead and mentor a team of brand, media, and promotions professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and creativity.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with digital, retail, and product teams to ensure marketing initiatives support commercial goals.

  • Website Management: Drive strong management of the NMB website, ensuring it generates value and maintains a strong brand presence.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this high-level role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Banking, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Master’s degree (MBA or MA in Marketing/Brand Management) is an added advantage.

  • Professional Certification in Marketing (CIM, AMA, or equivalent) is also an added advantage.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Marketing, Brand Management, or Communications.

  • Industry Focus: Experience within the banking or financial services sector is highly preferred.

  • Campaign Management: Proven experience managing large-scale brand campaigns and multi-channel marketing initiatives.

  • Agency Management: Demonstrable experience in managing agencies and overseeing marketing budgets.

  • ROI Optimization: Experience optimizing Return on Marketing Investment (ROMI) through data-driven decision-making.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strategic Acumen: Strategic and creative thinker with strong commercial acumen and ability to understand banking products and customer segments.

  • Brand Architecture: Deep understanding of brand positioning, identity systems, and lifecycle strategy.

  • Digital Proficiency: Familiarity with digital analytics tools (Google Analytics, Meta Business Suite) to evaluate performance.

  • Communication: Excellent storytelling, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage budgets, timelines, and multiple projects simultaneously.
