In this pivotal role, you will lead the delivery of our Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) strategy. Job Purpose

The Data Science sub-unit is a key strategic differentiator for NMB Bank. The Senior Data Scientist will be responsible for extracting valuable insights from vast datasets using a combination of statistical analysis, deep learning, and advanced programming.

Your primary objective will be to design and implement predictive models that enhance management decision-making. You will bridge the gap between raw data and business strategy, ensuring that NMB Bank remains competitive in a rapidly changing digital landscape.

Key Responsibilities & Strategic Deliverables

The role requires a balance of high-level strategic thinking and hands-on technical execution.

1. Strategic Planning & Innovation

  • Data Strategy Implementation: Drive the adoption of data science techniques to analyze and interpret large volumes of structured and unstructured data.

  • Business Transformation: Lead initiatives that use data for personalization, behavioral incentives, and proactive fraud detection. You will explore how data can be used to build creative solutions that drive organizational change.

  • Adoption of Analytics: Support the utilization of advanced analytical methodologies across all banking businesses and operations, ensuring that data insights are actionable and accessible to stakeholders.

  • Ethical AI: Champion the adoption of ethical Artificial Intelligence and Data Science design principles, ensuring that our models are morally right, socially responsible, and compliant with data privacy regulations.

2. Advanced Data Modeling & Machine Learning

  • Deep Learning Frameworks: Implement and optimize modern deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and MXNet to solve complex banking challenges.

  • Algorithm Development: Guide the development of machine learning algorithms capable of discovering deep patterns in massive datasets. You will apply the underlying theory and principles of ML models to real-world scenarios.

  • End-to-End Execution: Oversee the entire data science lifecycle, including problem formulation, data collection, preprocessing, exploratory data analysis (EDA), model selection, training, evaluation, deployment, and maintenance.

  • Internal Product Development: Develop internal algorithmic products, such as ML-as-a-Service APIs, numerical optimization tools, and statistical significance testing frameworks to streamline event data processing.

3. Data Architecture & Platforms

  • Solution Architecture: Recommend appropriate system solutions and modeling approaches for a variety of business problems, assessing associated risks and scalability.

  • Big Data Infrastructure: Implement advanced data platforms, such as Data Lakes, responsible for processing, analyzing, and storing unstructured and semi-structured data.

  • Real-Time Capabilities: Implement real-time analysis capabilities that allow the bank to provide instant, personalized services to customers (e.g., instant credit scoring or fraud alerts).

  • Scalability Research: Research and explore open distributed architectures to decouple software from hardware, empowering processing capabilities for massive amounts of data and supporting linear platform expansions.

4. Visualization & Stakeholder Management

  • Data Storytelling: Provide data visualization tools that translate intricate data into coherent visual formats for executive management and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Knowledge Sharing: Work with other stakeholders to ensure a broad understanding of data science principles. You will act as a mentor, guiding teams on how to leverage AI platforms that provide infrastructure and tools for model development.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you must possess a blend of academic excellence and practical, hands-on experience in data science.

Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a relevant quantitative field.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years of work experience as a Data Scientist.

  • Big Data Ecosystems: Proven experience with big data platforms and tools including Hadoop, Pig, Hive, Spark, and MapReduce.

  • Database Management: Extensive experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.

  • Programming Proficiency: Expertise in programming languages such as Python, R, Scala, and Perl, as well as SQL for data manipulation.

  • Algorithm Implementation: Deep experience in data mining and machine learning algorithms and their practical implementation.

  • Data Handling: Demonstrated experience manipulating and analyzing large datasets.

  • Industry Knowledge: Experience in the Financial Services or Banking sector is considered a significant bonus.

  • Technical Mastery: Strong command of ML techniques, BI & Data Warehousing, and ETL frameworks.

  • Mathematical Aptitude: Strong mathematical and numeracy skills are essential for statistical modeling.

  • Problem Solving: Excellent analytical, creative, and problem-solving skills with a data-oriented personality.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with people at all levels of the organization.

  • Autonomy: Ability to work independently with limited supervision, prioritize tasks, meet deadliness, and work under pressure.
