Job Overview

HR World Ltd, Tanzania’s leading human resources and recruitment consultancy, is currently sourcing talent on behalf of a reputable client in the logistics sector. We are seeking a reliable, organized, and results-driven Courier Manager to lead operations in Morogoro.

The logistics industry in Tanzania is evolving rapidly, and our client requires a dynamic leader capable of overseeing complex daily courier operations. The ideal candidate will be the backbone of the delivery network, responsible for managing delivery teams, ensuring the timely and accurate dispatch of parcels, and maintaining the highest standards of service quality. This role is not just about moving packages; it is about managing people, optimizing costs, and ensuring customer satisfaction in a competitive market.

Key Responsibilities and Operational Duties

The Courier Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end management of the branch’s courier operations. Your duties are categorized into three core strategic areas:

1. Operational Supervision & Route Optimization

  • Daily Operations: You will supervise and coordinate day-to-day courier and delivery operations to ensure maximum efficiency and accuracy. This involves overseeing the entire lifecycle of a parcel from acceptance at the dispatch center to final delivery at the customer’s doorstep.

  • Route Planning: A critical part of this role is to plan and optimize delivery routes. You must utilize your knowledge of local routes in the Morogoro region to ensure timely service while minimizing fuel consumption and operational costs.

  • Tracking & Resolution: Monitor parcel tracking systems in real-time to identify potential delays. You are expected to resolve delivery issues promptly, handling exceptions such as lost parcels or failed deliveries with urgency and professionalism.

2. Team Leadership & Fleet Management

  • Staff Management: Manage the courier staff effectively. This includes scheduling shifts to ensure adequate coverage, monitoring individual performance against delivery targets, and conducting regular training sessions to improve team capability.

  • Fleet Maintenance: You will oversee the maintenance schedules of all delivery vehicles (motorcycles/vans). Ensuring the proper utilization and safety of delivery assets is crucial to preventing downtime and extending the lifespan of the fleet.

  • Compliance: Ensure full compliance with company policies, safety procedures, and local traffic regulations. You are responsible for the safety of your riders and drivers on the road.

3. Reporting & Customer Service Excellence

  • Client Communication: Maintain strong lines of communication with clients to ensure service satisfaction. You will be the escalation point for complex complaints, addressing them effectively to retain business and build trust.

  • Performance Reporting: Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports. These reports should analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery rates, fuel usage, and cost-per-delivery, providing management with visibility into branch performance.

  • Continuous Improvement: Support the continuous improvement of logistics processes. You are expected to proactively identify bottlenecks in the current workflow and propose solutions to raise service standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for this management position, candidates must demonstrate a blend of academic knowledge and practical operational experience.

Academic Background:

  • A Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is required.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on experience in courier, logistics, or delivery management.

  • Experience working in the Morogoro region or a similar dynamic environment is highly desirable.

  • Proven track record of managing a team of riders, drivers, or logistics coordinators.

Core Competencies & Skills:

  • Leadership: Strong leadership and team management skills are non-negotiable. You must be able to motivate a field team to meet tight deadlines under pressure.

  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in MS Office (Excel for reporting) and familiarity with modern logistics or delivery management software (TMS, Route Optimization tools).

  • Problem Solving: Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities. You need the capacity to think on your feet when vehicles break down or routes are blocked.

  • Integrity: High level of integrity, discipline, and attention to detail. You will be handling valuable goods and managing operational costs, requiring total transparency.
