Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is a world-class underground gold mine situated in the Shinyanga Region of Tanzania. We are currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Boilermaker to join our Fabrication Workshop team.
The successful candidate will be expected to align with the Barrick DNA—a culture of partnership, accountability, and results. You will drive change within your team and ensure that activities in the mining department are effectively planned and executed in a safe, cost-effective manner. Your goal is to help us achieve our production targets in accordance with BGML Mining Safety Standards, Policies, and Procedures.
Job Purpose
The Boilermaker plays a critical role in maintaining the structural integrity and mechanical efficiency of the mine’s processing plant and heavy mining equipment (HME). Reporting to the Fabrication Workshop Supervisor, you will be responsible for interpreting technical drawings, selecting the correct materials, and performing high-quality welding, cutting, and fabrication tasks. This is a permanent position that requires a professional with underground mining experience and a fierce commitment to “Zero Harm.”
Key Responsibilities and Technical Duties
The role requires a blend of technical precision, safety leadership, and operational planning. Your duties are categorized as follows:
1. Technical Fabrication & Maintenance

Mechanical Repairs: Carry out mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance to keep Process Plant equipment running safely and efficiently. Your work directly impacts the mine’s ability to achieve production and cost targets.

Welding & Cutting: execute complex welding tasks using oxy-acetylene welding and cutting, thermal gouging, and thermal heating equipment. You must ensure the correct selection of hand power tools and safety equipment for every task.

Fabrication: Carry out fabrication work and corrective maintenance to improve equipment availability, reliability, safety, and functionality.

HME Availability: Ensure that maintenance practices result in maximum Heavy Mining Equipment (HME) availability. Meeting or exceeding planned HME equipment availability is a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for this role.
2. Planning, Interpretation & Documentation

Blueprint Reading: You must demonstrate a deep understanding of engineering and structural drawings. This includes interpreting sketches, applying measuring equipment correctly, and understanding welding terms, codes, and symbols.

Job Planning: Plan the logical sequence of welding operations to ensure efficiency and structural integrity.

Documentation: Complete basic welding, heating, and cutting job cards/work orders and ensure Hot Work Permits are fully authorized before commencing any task.

Material Selection: Ensure that the selection of materials for repairs, replacements, and inspections complies with the required engineering standards.
3. Health, Safety & Compliance

Safety Adherence: Ensure total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health, and Environmental Policies. This includes attending compulsory safety courses and meetings and using the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Hazard Management: proactively report incidents and accidents. You must be able to interpret Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) to handle hazardous materials safely.

Zero Harm: Carry out duties without jeopardizing the health and safety of yourself or your colleagues.
4. Mentorship & Teamwork

Training: Actively participate in training activities to gain new skills and assume increasing accountability.

Coaching: Under the direction of the First Line Leader, provide appropriate on-the-job training (OJT) and coaching to less experienced personnel to build the team’s overall capability.

Communication: Ensure the First Line Leader and all stakeholders are kept informed on equipment availability status.
Qualification Requirements
To be considered for this technical role, candidates must meet the following strict academic and certification criteria:

Education: Possession of an Ordinary Secondary Education (Form IV) certificate is mandatory.

Licensure: Must possess a valid Driver’s License with defensive driving skills.

Added Advantages: Basic knowledge of Underground (U/G) paste systems, Mine Rescue training, and valid First Aid certificates will be considered a distinct added advantage.
Experience Requirements

Industry Experience: Must have a minimum of 3 years’ work experience specifically in an underground mining operation. This environment presents unique challenges, and prior exposure is non-negotiable.

Technical Expertise: Must have detailed knowledge and practical experience in the operation of multiple metal cutting, welding, and fabrication methods.
Skills and Knowledge Competencies

Language: Excellent communication skills in English (both written and verbal) are required for safety reporting and interpreting technical manuals.

Safety Acumen: Strong skills in Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment. You must have a solid awareness of the Mine Health & Safety Act.

Technical Literacy: Must be able to read and understand designed paste line and equipment plans, detailed engineered prints, and layouts.

Operational Knowledge: Must have a good understanding of underground mining operations and a track record of solid safety performance at both the personal and professional levels.
