What You Will Learn & Do

In motorsport, aerodynamics is the difference between winning and losing. It dictates top speed (drag), cornering stability (downforce), and engine reliability (cooling). As a trainee, you will be immersed in the entire development lifecycle.

1. Technical Development & CFD Simulation

  • The Science: You will support the team in technical development with a focus on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) calculations.

  • The Tools: You will gain proficiency in industry-standard tools like StarCCM+ (for solving fluid flow problems) and ANSA (for pre-processing and mesh generation).

  • The Impact: Your calculations will help engineers decide on the shape of fairings, winglets, and air intakes before a physical prototype is ever built.

2. Project Management & Documentation

  • Process Insight: You will learn about the complex processes involved in the creation of high-performance vehicles. This includes understanding how design, chassis, and engine departments collaborate.

  • Reporting: You will assist in the documentation and preparation of work results. In racing, data is useless if it isn’t communicated clearly. You will learn to present complex aerodynamic data to race engineers and project managers.

3. Testing & Validation

  • Real-World Application: Simulation is only half the battle. You will assist with the planning and execution of test and validation drives. This could involve wind tunnel testing or track data analysis, validating that your computer models match reality.

Eligibility Criteria

Academic Background:

  • You must be currently enrolled in a degree program in Engineering.

  • Preferred Focus: Motorsport Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.

Technical Skills:

  • Fluid Mechanics: Basic knowledge of fluid mechanics and aerodynamics theory is essential.
