Program Overview

DocNomadsPlus is a prestigious two-year, full-time Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) aimed at aspiring independent documentary filmmakers from around the globe. Building on the legacy of the original DocNomads program (2012–2025), this new iteration continues to offer world-class training in a truly international setting.

The program is delivered by a consortium of three leading European universities:

• Universidade Lusófona – Lisbon, Portugal

• Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (KIMO) – Vilnius, Lithuania

• LUCA School of Arts – Brussels, Belgium

The Mobile Journey: Students undertake a unique mobility track, spending a semester in each of the three diverse cultural hubs: Lisbon, Vilnius, and Brussels. For the fourth and final semester, students return to one of these locations to produce their Graduation Film Project.

Curriculum & Approach: DocNomadsPlus is designed to foster a diverse group of filmmakers. The curriculum combines:

• Hands-on Filmmaking: Students create at least four films, working both individually and in teams under the mentorship of seasoned directors and industry professionals.

• Theoretical Depth: Intense practical training is balanced with education in film theory, history, aesthetics, and cultural studies.

• Career Readiness: Graduates leave with an impressive portfolio and the critical skills needed to navigate the versatile landscape of the international film industry.

Scholarship Benefits

The DocNomadsPlus program offers a limited number of Erasmus+ Scholarships to top-ranking applicants. These scholarships are highly competitive and provide comprehensive financial support.

• Tuition Fee Waiver: Full coverage of participation costs (tuition fees are waived).

• Monthly Stipend: A living allowance of €1,400 per month for the duration of the program (24 months).

• Total Value: The scholarship is designed to cover travel, visa, installation, and subsistence costs, allowing students to focus entirely on their artistic development.

Funding Timeline:

• Scholarship Applicants: Must apply by January 20, 2026.

• Self-Funded Applicants: Applications remain open until April 15, 2026 (for those who do not require a scholarship).

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the program and the scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

1. Academic Background

• Applicants must hold an internationally recognized Bachelor’s degree (minimum 180 ECTS credits).

• Preferred Fields: Film Studies, Audiovisual Arts, Media/Communication Studies, or Fine Arts.

• Other Degrees: Applicants with degrees in other fields (e.g., Sociology, Anthropology, Design) may be considered if they submit a convincing artistic portfolio demonstrating their filmmaking potential.

2. Artistic Profile

• Candidates must demonstrate outstanding creative and technical skills.

• The selection committee looks for active, enthusiastic, and socially minded individuals with a unique personal voice and artistic vision.

3. Language Proficiency

• The program is entirely taught in English. Non-native speakers must provide proof of English proficiency (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL) unless they have completed a previous degree in English.
