Yolanda Buthelezi Chats About Stardom After Joining Mzansi Magic’s ‘Code 13’

The actress secured a leading role in Mzansi Magic’s new drama series Code-13, which airs at 8pm on Sundays.

The 13-part series is produced by Seriti Films. Yolanda plays Mpho with industry heavyweights Zolisa Xaluva, Zuluboy, Saint Seseli and Lunathi Mampofu.

The series opened with Mpho escaping from a prison truck disguised as a man before returning home as Patrick (played by Seseli).

“My role is going to grow as the story unfolds and the viewer will understand why Mpho was incarcerated and disguised as a man,” Yolanda told TshisaLIVE.

Mpho is the biggest role in her career, having debuted on Muvhango as Zamazonke in 2022.

She also did a stint on Sibongile & the Dlaminis.

“Muvhango laid a solid foundation for me because it was my first role and I never studied acting. I’ve always wanted to be on TV but my family thought I should have a ‘legit qualification’, hence I studied and graduated [with] a BCom in marketing and business management. My uncle saw I had a passion for TV and when he saw a casting call for Muvhango he shared it with me.”

She learnt from experienced colleagues and continues to do so.

“Even now I’m playing alongside Saint Seseli as his girlfriend. He’s made it easy for me and even with kissing scenes — something I’d never done before — he jokes about them. That has made me comfortable.”

The 28-year-old rising star from Ulundi hosted a show on Soweto TV and guest presented on Selimathunzi.

She has also hosted the South African Music Awards and Basadi in Music Awards.
